Inside Voices is a 4-piece alternative emo-rock band based in northeast Louisiana. Their influences are primarily derived from bands such as Delta Sleep, Title Fight, and Glocca Morra, as well as various artists they happen to be listening to at the time of writing. Starting in 2015 as a 3-piece melodic punk/math-rock style band, Inside Voices’ sound has developed and changed greatly over the years. Connor Matthews (drummer) and Tyler Jones (guitar/vocals) have been playing music together in various projects since 2009. After much trial and error in different musical endeavors, taking periodic breaks from writing and performing, moving off to attend university, so on and so forth; Inside Voices was born from the desire to dive back into the thing they love most: jamming with their buds. IV’s first full-length release, “Consecutive Normal Songs” (2018), was their first real attempt of putting themselves on the map. Following the release of CNS, they played anywhere and everywhere they could. Primarily performing throughout the state of Louisiana, Inside Voices also did some touring with their pals in the Hattiesburg, Mississippi dream-pop act Goth Dad, hitting cities in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas along the way. During this time, they were writing the EP, “Seek” (2020). This is when they started noticing the band’s sound taking a new direction but felt as if something was missing during the writing process. Along the way, they picked up a second guitar player, Alex Stokes. His contribution to the band helped really zero in on the sound they had been searching for. Shortly after adding Alex and releasing “Seek”, the entire world shut down. It was during this time period that Connor, Alex, and Tyler jumped down the rabbit hole of where Inside Voices was headed. Since then, the band has had an interesting time trying to identify their specific genre, but they have spent more time cultivating what they perceive to be a genuinely original sound. Inside Voices’ newest EP, “Liminal Space”, showcases this originality in the form of a collection of songs that were written during the 21st century’s darkest and most worrisome time. Each song brings its own flavor to the table, but has a sense of cohesiveness that helps to fill in the gaps and set the tone for this collection of songs.
